student standing on podium with medal

FRIENDSWOOD, Texas — Friendswood High School junior Vikram Gupta has earned an international title after placing first in the Medical Reading competition at the HOSA Future Health Professionals International Leadership Conference (ILC), held June 17–21 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Representing both Friendswood High School and the state of Texas, Vikram was one of only three Texas students selected to compete against top students from all 50 states, as well as several countries including Canada, China, Vietnam, and South Korea.

The Medical Reading event challenges students to strengthen their reading comprehension and understanding of leadership and healthcare topics through an extensive study of selected medical and leadership books. Competitors read five designated books before completing a rigorous 50-question multiple-choice examination designed to assess their ability to apply, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate the material.

The event encourages future healthcare professionals to deepen their knowledge of the medical field while developing the critical thinking and leadership skills essential for success in healthcare careers.

Vikram's first-place finish demonstrates his exceptional academic dedication, discipline, and passion for the health sciences.

Friendswood ISD congratulates Vikram on this remarkable achievement and celebrates the way he continues to represent Friendswood High School and the Mustang community with excellence on the international stage.
